Job Purpose


The Controller is responsible for the management, financial integrity, and strategic direction of the Company’s Accounting department. This position is also responsible for finance, treasury, financial reporting, and financial planning to include budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.


The Controller will establish and oversee procedures and controls to ensure compliance with best practices and industry standards.

 

Conduct all business in accordance with company policies and procedures, Fair Housing, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and all other state and federal laws pertaining to employment and property management.



Duties and Responsibilities

 

Specific Duties

  • Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
  • Coordinating activities of external auditors
  • Assisting management with financial decisions
  • Managing the budget process
  • Assess current accounting operations; monitor and assure that policies and procedures related to the Accounting Department are accurate and develop new policies where appropriate
  • Establish accounting and internal control systems
  • Ensure full transparency prior to delivering financial reports
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
  • Supervise accounting department according to the Company’s policies and procedures

·        Direct the timely completion and review of annual budgets and monthly reporting

·        Lead and provide oversight to the accounting department in their day-to-day responsibilities. Ensure there is efficiency, timely and error-free processes

·        Ensure that all required tax filings are completed timely and correctly

·        Ensure that quality control measures are in place for the protection of financial transactions and reporting and our fiduciary responsibility to clients

·        Work with Executive Management to maximize accounting policies across the organization

·        Lead efforts to continue maturing the accounting operations to scale efficiently and effectively while ensuring the appropriate controls continue to be utilized

  • Monitor and assure the financial well -being of the company and its affiliates.
  • Represent the Accounting Department in Company staff meetings, Executive Committee meetings, and client meetings.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Perform all duties and functions in compliance to the Latter & Blum Property Management Employee Handbook and Policies and Procedures Manual, as amended from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Current certification as a Certified Public Accountant preferred
  • Ongoing education in support of contemporary accounting and finance practices preferred
  • Five years of demonstrated successful experience in the duties and responsibilities listed
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and communicate financial results
  • Proficiency in advanced Excel competence
  • Experience in Yardi property management software/services preferred
  • Experience in real estate and / or property management preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills as well as analytical and organizational proficiency.

 

Working Conditions

  • Specific with general accountant work.
  • Indoors (100% of the time)

  • Frequent (33%-66%) – 10 – 25 lbs.
  • Occasional (1% - 33%)– 25 – 40 lbs.

Vision Requirements

  • Constant need (66% to 100% of the time) to complete forms, read and review reports, answer a wide variety of correspondence, view computer screen. Frequent need to see small detail.
  • Constant need (66% to 100% of the time) to see things clearly beyond arm's reach.

 

Hearing Requirements

  • Constant need (66% to 100% of the time) to communicate over telephone and in person with vendors, corporate office staff, and clients

 

Speaking Requirements

  • Constant need (66% to 100% of the time) to verbally communicate over the telephone and in person with vendors, corporate, staff, and clients

 

Driving/Traveling Requirements

  • Frequent need (33% to 66% of the time) to utilize personal transportation
  • Must have valid driver's license and automobile insurance
